Student Assistant for SAFARI Video Processing Tasks

Description: “Onur Mutlu Lectures” is a popular YouTube channel through which we share cutting-edge research, lectures, and talks on computer architecture, bioinformatics, hardware/software co-design, and more. We are committed to democratizing education through our regular posting of course lectures and talk videos online. We livestream lectures and talks on YouTube and make all media and material freely available on both our course website and YouTube channels. Collectively, our YouTube channels have tens of thousands of subscribers, and our online materials are used by students, universities, and industry leaders all over the globe. We are particularly dedicated to sharing our resources with those without access to state-of-the-art computer architecture and digital design classes.

We are looking for an ETH bachelor or master’s student to work with us as a student assistant to edit and upload videos to our “Onur Mutlu Lectures” YouTube channel. This will be a paid work opportunity where the student will receive training and then will have a lot of flexibility to allocate their working hours over the semester, however we will also require help with recording talks and lectures at specified times in advance. We will provide the training, necessary infrastructure, tools, and working space to perform this work.

We expect about 5-10 hours per week on average and are looking for someone to help until at least the end of spring semester 2025, with the possibility of extension. Compensation is at the rate set by the ETH Rektorat for student assistants.

Responsibilities of the student

  • Download the recording from Zoom or other sources. Ensure the audio, video, and slides are available.
  • Edit each video in the required format (we will explain the format during training). Sometimes, a single recording may have multiple lectures in it. The student needs to carefully split the videos before uploading.
  • Upload the video as a private video and fill in the required metadata.
  • Record online talks from Prof. Onur Mutlu, edit the recordings and upload the talks. We will inform you of the date/time of the talk.
  • Update the checklist with the status of all completed editing and uploading.

Desirable Experience: Preference will be given to an ETH bachelor or master’s student with keen attention to detail and good English language skills. Familiarity with macOS and iMovie software is a plus, or willingness and ability to learn the software quickly

We look forward to receiving your application, including your CV and a short statement on why you want to work with us and take on this position, with your experience and availability.
